The therapeutic benefits of massage do more than just relax the mind and body. Incoporating massage therapy into your wellness plan is a highly effective way to treat and prevent many health conditions. No longer are dangerous perscription drugs and surgery our only options. Massage has been used all around the world for hundreds of years to induce relaxation, reduce pain, and promote healing.
Massage has been scientifically proven to:
Massage is therapy and at Touch Therapeutics your massage is customized for your individual, therapeutic needs. Besides the traditional swedish massage, several other types of massage are available.
Swedish Massage Swedish massage is the most popular type of massage. It uses a firm, but gentle pressure to improve circulation, ease muscle aches and tension, improve flexibility, and induce relaxation.
Deep Tissue Bands of painful, rigid tissue in muscles, tendons, and ligaments are called adhesions. Adhesions can block circulation and cause inflammation, limited range of motion, and pain. Deep tissue massage uses deep, direct pressure or friction applied across the muscle grain to physically break down adhesions. This technique is most often used to treat painful, chronic conditions such as sports injuries, repetitive stress injuries, and low back pain.
Neuromuscular/Trigger Point Therapy Neuromuscular therapy focuses on the treatment of trigger points. Trigger points are localized areas of tenderness that refer pain to another part of the body. Muscles are treated using sustained, static pressure varying from light to heavy, depending on the severity of the trigger point. Swedish massage may be used to warm the tissue in preparation for deeper neuromuscular work.
Myofascial Release Stress, injuries, and trauma can result in restriction to the web of tissue that connects muscles, organs, and skeletal structures. The aim of myofascial release is to rid the myofascial system of restriction and restore healthy tissue function. Practioners move slowly through the surface layers of fascia until the deep tissues are reached using elbows, knuckles, or other tools to achieve the fascial stretch.
Chair Massage Chair massage is a short massage, anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes, performed through clothing. The focus is on tense areas such as the neck, back, and shoulders. Our therapists use a special ergonomic chair designed for relaxation and comfort.
Sports Massage Sports massage is a highly effective therapy for relieving muscle tension and soreness, increasing mobility, and maintaining the musculoskeletal system for optimal performance. Athletes who receive massage treatments on a regular basis experience fewer injuries and often report improved athletic performance. A variety of stroking movements to increase circulation and relax tight muscles begin the massage. Kneading is used on deeper tissues to stretch muscle fibers and friction can be used to break down adhesions to increase mobility. Massage may be used both pre and post event to prevent injury.
Pre-Natal Massage Pre-natal massage is massage therapy tailored for the needs of the expectant mother. It is also called pregnancy massage. Pre-natal massage has been found to reduce stress, decrease swelling, and relieve aches and pains in muscles and joints. Massage is a popular choice to treat back pain during pregnancy when choices for pain relief are often limited.
All treatments may be used alone or in conjunction to promote healing. |
